First Joint Steering Committee Meeting on Natural Resources Management in Arusha
When the Ministry for Natural Resources and Tourism and the German Development Cooperation agreed on the joint GIZ/ KFW program in 2012 they also agreed on the organizational set up and the establishment of a STEERING COMMITTEE. With KFW starting its activities in the Serengeti National Park and Selous Game Reserve, the joint Steering Committee was finally kicked-off on the 31st of August 2015. The duty of the Committee is to review project objectives and indicators, review and approve annual work plans and budgets, ensure interagency team work, monitor progress and promote awareness and support for the activities. The meeting was chaired by the PS of MNRT Dr Adelhelm Meru and very well attended by all parties involved. Mrs Lena Thiede from the German Embassy therefore encouraged all members in her opening remarks to join hands for the good cause of conservation and local development.
The Committee achieved major results such as the definition of milestones for the establishment of TAWA and GIZ’s work to support the district Authorities. It’s contribution towards more transparency and an open dialogue with all partners involved should not be underestimated. It was agreed with MNRT that it shall meet semiannually.
